John Henry Hawn, 86, of Kingsport, Tennessee, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended illness.
He was born May 21, 1921, in Catawba County, North Carolina, and lived most of his life in Hickory before moving to Kingsport in 1996. John was a World War II veteran and worked as a welder doing ornamental steel work.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clarence and Annie Sears Hawn; four brothers, Claude, Jack, Sam and Joe Hawn; and a sister, Martha Hallman.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Inez Dolly Fisher Hawn of Kingsport; a daughter, Pat Rickman and husband Phil of Kingsport; two granddaughters, Michele Arnold and husband Dwain of Kingsport, Monica Walls and husband Jason of Liberty, South Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Mara, Owen, and Lily Arnold of Kingsport and Ethan Walls of Liberty, SC; three sisters, Henrietta Cline, North Wilkesboro, NC, Betty Ruth Beard and husband Beryl of Hickory, NC, Barbara Lewis, Hickory, NC; and numerous nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, and grand-nieces.
Services will be conducted Sunday, February 10, 2008, at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the church parlor followed by the memorial service at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Tom Seay and Rev. Angela Hardy Cross officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
