John Harris Hopkins

John Harris Hopkins

John Harris Hopkins, 58, of Kingsport, passed away June 1, 2011.

He was born in Norwalk, CT but called Wilmington, Delaware his home. He received a BA in English, BS in Accounting, and a MBA from the University of Delaware. John was a Captain in the US Army, RLTW. He worked for Wellmont Health System for 20 years. He was a member of Downtown Kingsport Rotary and First Broad Street United Methodist Church where he was a devout Christian. John was devoted to his family and was an avid runner, cyclist, reader, writer, and a student of history.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents John and Barbara Zuczkowski and paternal grandparents Harris and Mabel Hopkins.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Susan Elizabeth Hopkins; daughter Katherine Hopkins and fiance, Anthony Eiler; son Stephen Hopkins; parents George and Virginia Hopkins; brothers, Mark Hopkins, Todd Hopkins; aunt and uncle Bob and Vickie Hopkins and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. The service will begin at 3 pm with Rev. Mickey Rainwater officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Posts #3/265.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Broad Street United Methodist Church, P.O. B ox 1346, Kingsport, TN 37662 or to The Gettysburg Foundation, 1195 Baltimore Pike, PO Box 4224, Gettysburg, PA 17325.

The family would like to express their thanks to the physicians, nurses, caregivers and friends that supported John and his family throughout their journey.
