John G. Hubmann

John G. Hubmann, 85, of Kingsport, died early Thursday morning, April 1, 2010, at Asbury Place at Baysmont.

John was born on a dairy farm in Alexander, Arkansas. He served during WW II in the Pacific Theater with the 4th Marine Division. He was involved in action on Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. He returned to Tennessee with his wife, where he worked at TVA, Bays Mountain Construction, Tennessee Eastman, Hubmann Construction, A & L, and Fluor Daniels Construction. He was involved in the original construction of Arkansas Eastman. He was involved in many churches as a song leader, and loved going to church and to singing schools. He was a member of Homeland Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Myrtle Hubmann; brothers, Ray Browning and Boyce Browning; sister, Gloria Jean Hubmann; eternal companion, Virginia Gilliam Hubmann; and daughter-in-law, Judy Hubmann.

He is survived by son, Ray Hubmann, of Kingsport; daughter, Peggy Thomas and husband, Charles, also of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Brian, Brad, and Warren Hubmann, Kathy Duncan, Rachael Hubmann, and Chuck Thomas; nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Services will be conducted at 1:30, with Pastor J. W. Depew officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park, with Military Rites provided by American Legion Posts #3/265. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to thank the staff at Asbury Place at Baysmont for the exceptional care that John received while under their care for the last nineteen months.
