John "Johnny" Howard Davenport, 73, Kingsport, died on Friday, December 30, 2016 at his home. Johnny was a master carpenter and was employed with Little and Adams Construction Company prior to his retirement. He served as a Deacon of Oak Glen Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by parents, James Lewis and Maggie Nunley Davenport; an infant sister; brothers, Billy, Darrold and Dorris.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Linda Rigsby Davenport; sister, Susie Gregory; brother, Eddie; sisters-in-law, Hope Mullins, Willadene Davenport and Judy Davenport; special nieces, Missy Brown and Kristy Jones; special nephews, Richie Dean and Steve Brown; and several other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5-7:00 pm at Oak Glen Baptist Church in Yuma, VA. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Danny Sykes and Pastor Darren Mauk officiating. Special music will be provided by Richie Dean and the Oak Glen Choir.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017, at Oak Glen Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary Phillips, Tim Hoss, Rusty Barbour, Pete Barbour, Alvin Davenport and John DeLeon. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow Deacons of Oak Glen Baptist Church.
