John Franklin Miller

John Franklin Miller, of Kingsport, died Thursday afternoon 6-30-11 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Whitesburg, TN, he had resided in Kingsport since 1958. He moved to Kingsport from Spring City, TN, where he had been an active dairy farmer. John served in the U.S. Coast Guard as an officer during the latter part of WWII. John was president and owner of Tennessee Electric Company, a major industrial construction contractor, from 1958-2006. He was also a former director of Kingsport National Bank, First Tennessee Bank and Tri-Cities Bank.

John was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of The Olde Farm and The Virginian golf courses.

He is survived by his wife Celesta Carter Miller, of the home; son, J. Randolph Miller and wife Harriet, Knoxville, TN; two grandsons, Peyton R. Miller, Cambridge, MA; A. Gaines Miller, Knoxville, TN; three sisters, Mildred Ballew and husband Frank, Morganton, NC; Peggy Yow and husband James, Raleigh, NC; Nancy Morelock and husband Doyle, Kingsport, TN; brother, Charles A. Miller, Kingsport, TN; brother-in-law, Donald F. Carter and wife Teresa, Piney Flats, TN; Aunt, Marie Faust, Kingsport; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private family burial will take place in Oak Hill Memorial Park. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 pm Saturday 7-2-11 at First Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. David A.Cagle officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the church.
