John H. Moore, III, MD, age 91, passed away at his home on May 13, 2019. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, at the age of 17, he entered the Coast Guard Academy and served 9 months until the end of WWII. Returning home, he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and the University Medical School. He interned at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. He served two years in the Air Force, followed by a three year residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 1959, he opened his practice in Kingsport, where he remained until his retirement in 2002. Over the course of his career he delivered more than 8,000 babies. He served terms as President of the Sullivan County Medical Society and Head of Staff of Holston Valley Medical Center and the Indian Path Medical Center. As a member of Preston Hills Presbyterian Church, he served five terms as Elder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Moore, Jr. and Marion Eames Moore, and sister, Marion Warner.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years Billee Gambill Moore, his sons Stephen Moore and wife, Andrea, Scott Moore and wife, Terrie, David Moore and wife Cammie, and daughter Lianne Moore, grandchildren Sidney, Katie and Joshua Moore and wife, Libby, Erin Smith and husband, Derek, and two great grandchildren, Emily and Caleb Smith, niece, Valerie Warner and nephew, Jeff Warner.
A Celebration of Life will be included in the morning service at 11:00 am on Sunday May 26, 2019 at Preston Hills Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Rich Fifield officiating. The family will remain to receive friends and visitors until 2 pm.
