John Charles Quirin

John Charles Quirin

Kingsport - John C. Quirin died March 18, 2014 at his residence, a week before his 92nd birthday.

He was born in Altoona, PA to John Joseph and Maria Mary Quirin. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout while in high school and was one of two students to be subsequently recruited by the FBI. Upon graduation he was employed as a clerk with the FBI and initially transferred to Hawaii for 1 ½ years. With World War II escalating he came home to Pennsylvania and was drafted into the Army. His service in WWII included assignments to various postings in Germany and France.

While on leave, he met his future wife, Mary Etta, at the USO in Memphis. While finishing his education and getting his degree during the day, he was employed as a clerk for the FBI at night. Following a 3 month training at Quantico, VA he was promoted to Special Agent with the FBI where he served a long career of 34 years. His last assignment, in 1963 was in the Kingsport area where he worked until he retired in 1975.

He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary Etta Quirin, for 55 years, on Sept. 11, 2001.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Bingham, and husband Bob Bingham, of Kingsport; his son, Brett Quirin, and wife Paula Quirin, of Cary, NC; his son, Mark Quirin, and wife Theresa Quirin, of Sugar Hill, GA.; six grandchildren, Rhett Bingham & Devin Bingham, Rachel Quirin & Julia Quirin, Thomas Quirin & Jeffrey Quirin; and sister, Bernice Briggs.

We would like to thank his devoted caregivers who were like family, Brooke Seckler, Meranda Hensley, Buddy Stewart, and also the special caregivers with Comfort Keepers, Dora Mittemiller, Shannon Brooks, Brittany Shasteen, Rebecca Wiederich.

The family will receive friends Saturday from noon - 1 pm at St. Dominic Catholic Church.

Funeral Mass will follow at 1 pm with Father Michael Nolan officiating with burial immediately afterwards at East Lawn Memorial Park, Kingsport.
