John N. Rasar, 76, of Kingsport, passed away suddenly at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center on Thursday, July 3, 2014. He was born February 27, 1938 in Elizabethton, TN but lived most of his life in Kingsport, TN.
Mr. Rasar was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired from Eastman Chemical Company in 1994 after 32 years of excellent service. During his employment, he was co-author of two patents.
John had a love for any "new gadget" on the market; he was very up-to-date on his computer and iPads. He also loved to listen to music on his numerous pairs of headphones; his difficult task of the day was to choose which set to listen to first. He was an excellent photographer; he loved making nature pictures from his deck and was the best at capturing treasured memories at family gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his parents Snyder and Mary Buck Rasar; sister Lucy Rasar Peters; two special aunts Matilda Rasar Bowen and Agnes Buck Zahn; and a half-brother Ernest (Black Cat) Rasar.
Survivors include his loving wife and companion of 35 years Marilyn Woodward Rasar; son Johnny (LeaAnn) Rasar; special granddaughter Presley Anna Rasar; two sisters Susan (Bob) Ready, Patti Rasar; aunt Kate Adams; his travel companion and buddy nephew Billy "Wampster" Gentry; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Carroll Boone, Jim and Evelyn Orrick and Richard Guinn.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport TN. Mr. Rasar's wishes were to be cremated; the family will scatter his ashes in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to be made to The American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria VA 22311 or the organization of one's choice.
