OBITUARY INFORMATION
BOLD PRINT: JOHN A. STEADMAN
John A. Steadman, 91, of Sullivan Gardens, died Thursday, December 21, 2006.
Born on December 23, 1914, he was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. A graduate of the Sullivan High School Class of 1932, John served in the Pacific during World War II as a member of the U.S. Navy?s 4th Construction Battalion - the Seebees. Upon his return in 1945, he joined the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as Assistant Superintendent of Mail.
He was an active member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Patton and Ocia Ketron Steadman; five brothers, S.P., Thomas, Harry, Jack and Ralph Steadman; and four sisters, Irene Bailey, Grace Morelock, Ethel Hart and Ruth Hamblen.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Riggs Steadman; son, James Steadman and wife Andrea of Collierville, Tennessee; one brother, Robert N. Steadman of Kingsport; three granddaughters, Abigail Jacobi, husband Jordan and son Fletcher of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Elisabeth Steadman of Milwaukee and Sara Emily Steadman of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin; one grandson, Gavin Steadman of Collierville; a host of loving nieces and nephews, and many other friends and relatives.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Services will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Dr. Kenneth W. LaDuke officiating.
Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post No. 3/265.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
