John L. Watson Jr., 78, Kingsport, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center due to a heart attack.
John was born in Maryville, TN and moved to Kingsport in 1957. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. John was a Trooper for the Tennessee Highway Patrol and then was an employee of Holston Defense Corporation where he worked in the Safety Department until his retirement.
He was a member of Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church.
John was a member of the Cherokee Rod and Gun Club where he had served as president, a member of the American Legion Post #3, the Tennessee Law Enforcement, and the N.R.A.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Leslie Watson, Sr. and Mildred McCampbell Watson; and a brother.
Surviving are his wife, Emma F. Watson of the home; one son, John L. Watson III, Kingsport; one sister, Betty Yoast, Springfield, VA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with officiating.
Entombment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
