John Sie "Jay" Watts, 73, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord, family and friends on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, after a lengthy illness.
Jay was born on October 16, 1935, in Linefork, KY. After moving to Kingsport in 1957, he drove a school bus and worked for Richard Watts' Exxon and learned to be a mechanic. After working for Union 76, he established his own business and was owner and operator of Jay's Auto Repair for 30 years. He ran his business successfully on hard work, craftsmanship, and honesty in Long Island until he retired in 1995. He was also a member of Double Springs Baptist Church.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Allard and Anna Watts of Linefork, KY; his grandparents, Sie and Nancy Cornett of Linefork, KY; one brother and sister-in-law, Hagan and Patricia Watts of Mason, OH; one aunt, Una Gardner of Kingsport; his mother-in-law, Zola Watts of Kingsport; and one nephew, Joe Don Watts of Kingsport.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patsy Faye Watts; two sons, Steven Watts and wife Hope of Kingsport, and Scott Watts of Kingsport; one special granddaughter, Jordan H. Watts; three sisters, Mavis Watts of Ulvah, KY, Sherlene Spangler of Isom, KY, and Elvenia Duff of Corbin, KY; eight brothers, Vennis Watts of Ulvah, KY, Fred Watts of Marysville, IN; Ira Lee Watts of Columbus, IN; Farlon Watts of Scipio, IN, Darrell Watts of Morgantown, IN; Kalon Watts of Scipio, IN; Kenneth Watts of Milan, IN, and Allard Watts, Jr. of Cornettsville, KY; seven nephews and ten nieces; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, aunts and uncles; and many, many friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. or anytime at the home.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Double Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Rick Roop officiating. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers; Jim Collier will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Many thanks to our family and friends for their prayers and visits, and a special thanks to Dr. Arthur M. Boyd and Barbara Edwards for their help and also the nurses from Wellmont Hospice for without them we would have been lost.
