John William (Bill) Clapp, Jr., 91, Kingsport, TN went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 11, 2016.
He was a native of Greensboro, NC, born on May 17, 1925. Mr. Clapp graduated from Elon College where he met his wife, Patsy. He also graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in chemical engineering. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Company after 38 years of service. Mr. Clapp was a devoted member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church where he volunteered frequently. He was active in the Kiwanis Club and many other community services.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Patsy Ruth Wrenn Clapp, brother, George Clapp, sister, Margaret Conrad, son-in-law, Ron Rice, and daughter-in-law, Rosanne Clapp.
Surviving are his daughters, Pamela Rice and Susan Ramsay, sons, John Clapp and Belvin Clapp, grandchildren, Rev. Bradley Rice, Captain William Tyler Rice, and Owen Clapp, and great-granddaughter, Caroline Rice.
The family will receive friends Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. till 1:00 p.m. at First Broad Street United Methodist Church.
The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Joe Green officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
