Johnnie B. Lane, 90, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Sunday evening, June 24, 2007, at his home following an extended illness.

Born in Scott County, Virginia, he had resided in Kingsport most of his life. Mr. Lane served in the U. S. Army during World War II and retired from Mead Paper in 1982 after 30 years of service. He was a Baptist and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Preceding him in death were a daughter, Barbara Joella Dingus; a son-in-law, Ira Dingus; a granddaughter, Shirley Ann Dingus; a grandson, Joseph Lane; a great-grandson, Michael Dingus; his parents, John C. and Eliza Dove Lane; one sister, Beulah Brown; one brother, Ernest Lane; and a half-sister, Pearl Cox.

Surviving are his wife, Iris Faye Lane, of the home; two daughters, Joyce Pendergrass and husband, Rev. Roy, Fall Branch, Linda Rigsby and husband, Lewin, Gray; one son, Larry Lane and wife, Rose, of the home; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, or any time at the home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Living Word Lutheran Church, 5210 N Road Street, Gray, TN, with Rev. Thomas Kock officiating. Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Memorial park with Rev. Roy Pendergrass officiating and military rites by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
