Johnny Skaggs

Johnny Skaggs, 84, of Kingsport, TN, died October 25, 2016. Johnny was born in Pennington Gap, VA, on Skaggs Hill on September 7, 1932.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He retired from AFG after 28 years of service.

Mr. Skaggs was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Helen Liddle Skaggs; an infant daughter, Penny; his father, Virgil Skaggs; mother, Gertrude Nichols Anderson; and sister, Mildred Hyder.

He is survived by his daughter, Martha J. Skaggs of Richmond, VA; and friend, caregiver and the BEST next door neighbor, Bruce Hobbs.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

The service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Jeff Strong officiating.

Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park with Military Graveside Rites conducted by The American Legion Posts 3/265.

Pallbearers will be Paul Williams, Bruce Hobbs, Tyler Hobbs, Ricky Liddle, Chad Peters, Russell Ratcliffe, Robert Boyden, and Neil Matlock. Honorary pallbearers will be Senior Men's Sunday School Class.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Wellmont Hospice for their care and kindness.
