Johnny Wayne Vicars, passed away Monday, March 10, 2008, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Sullivan County, TN, on April 26, 1947 and always resided in the East Tennessee area.
John graduated from Church Hill High School and attended Tri-City State Technical Institute.
He served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1969. John received his training at Fort Campbell, KY and returned to Fort Eustus, VA upon returning from Vietnam. He taught Vocational Classes at Sullivan East High School, retiring after 20 years. He also taught at Johnson City Vocational School. He worked in construction for several years after retiring from teaching. He was an excellent welder, pipe fitter and air conditioning specialist.
John was an avid bass fisherman and loved restoring muscle cars. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who was loved by all who knew him.
His father, Harry Vicars Sr., mother, Deana Grace Vicars, and sister, Vickie Vicars Roe preceded him in death.
Surviving are his devoted wife Reta, of 29 years, sons, Johnny Vicars and wife Teresa, Shannon Ferguson, daughter, Amy Nunley and husband Jessie, grandchildren, Coty, Katie, and Emily Vicars, Joshua and Andrea Nunley, Chelsea and Katie Ferguson, brother, Harry Vicars Jr. and wife Brenda, sisters, Cornellia Caton and husband Bob, Janice Trent and husband Charles, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. He touched many lives and will be missed by all.
Calling hours are 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes.
Services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Fall Branch Chapel with Harry Vicars, Missionary officiating.
