Jon Thomas Moore passed away unexpectedly Monday, October 17, 2011. He was born November 25, 1943, the son of George Ray Sr. and Anna Belle Calhoun
Moore and grew up in Mt. Carmel.
He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School, received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech, an MS in Electrical Engineering from University of Tennessee and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Virginia.
Jon retired from Eastman Chemical Company as a Research Fellow after 29 years of service.
He had an inquisitive mind and was especially interested in science, woodworking, and nature.
Jon is survived by his wife, Joy, his children, Jon Moore, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, Nathan Moore and wife, Julie, Rachel Moore Chang and husband, Jamison; his grandchildren Calder, Lyra and Owen Moore, Jonah and Charlotte Moore, and Elise and Clara Chang and his brother, George Ray, Jr. and wife, Sandra.
Visitation will be on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 1-3 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will follow at 3 p.m.
