Jonathan Jon Stewart Metcalf, 18, of Kingsport died Wednesday morning, November 7, 2007, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Blacksburg, Virginia, but had resided in Kingsport since 1997. Jon was a senior at Dobyns-Bennett High School where he was a Tennessee/Virginia Scholar. He was active in soccer. Jon played for the Dobyns-Bennett Tribe Soccer team and the Holston Valley Futbol Club. He was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church and employed at Ridgefields County Club Golf Shop.
Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Henderson and Nancy Grigsby of Knoxville.
Surviving are his parents, Rev. Dr. Gary and Penny Metcalf of the home; one sister, Kayla Metcalf of the home; his paternal grandparents, Rev. Dr. Calvin and Bobbie Metcalf, Jefferson City; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Colonial Heights Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the church with Dr. Greg Burton and Rev. Daniel P. Matthews officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Those planning to attend should meet at the cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Cody Dingus, Morgan Edwards, Stewart Hall, David Hewson, Trevor McNew, Daniel Matthews, Jonathan Meade, and Blake Rasnake. Honorary pallbearers will be HVFC U-19, Tribe Soccer, and Matt Langford.
