Joncie "Shando" Curry, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 10, 2012 where he had been constantly surrounded by the care of his loved ones since his illness.
Born on October 24, 1931 in Delbarton, WV, Mr. Curry was the son of the late Billy and Cindy Curry.
Mr. Curry spent over 30 years working in the coal mines. He then relocated to Kingsport, TN where he enjoyed being retired and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Swords Creek Community Baptist Church, but since moving to Kingsport has been attending Harmony Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Ethel Mae Curry, Ruth Hess, Effa Elder, and Vicie Hunt.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Jackie Curry of Jonesborough; two daughters, Cheryl Walton of Kingsport, and Regina Almany and husband, Mike of Jonesborough; two sisters, Ivory Farmer and Icilee Workman; three brothers, Bill Curry, Amos Curry and Johnny Curry; five grandchildren, Erica Callahan and husband, Mike of Jonesborough, Brenda Ramey and husband, Josh of Kingsport, Jimmy Walton of Kingsport, PJ Walton and wife, Tiffany of Kingsport, and Liz Walton of Kingsport; four great-grandchildren, Caden and Avery Ramey, and Gavin and Greyson Callahan.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 6-8:00 pm at Harmony Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 with Pastor Steve Pate officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, June 14th, at 11:00 am at Bacon-Kincheloe Cemetery in Jonesborough.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Harmony Baptist Church building fund, 1162 Harmony Road, Jonesborough, TN 37659.
