Joseph M. Amato, 83, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away peacefully, July 16, 2009 at his home.
Joseph was born in Glasco, New York on January 26th, 1926 to Frank and Rosaria Amato, both deceased. Mr. Amato lived in Glasco, N.Y. where he was the owner of Statewide Furniture, Statewide Carpeting and also the owner and chef at Amato's Country Inn Restaurant. He proudly served his country after WWII and moved to Kingsport, Tennessee in 1985 where he originally opened Amato's Restaurant on Stone Drive in 1986 and then moved to Jack White Drive in 1990, later retiring in 2006.
Preceding him in death are his parents; two brothers, Michael "Geno"Amato, Anthony "Tony"Amato; one sister, Carmela "Carrie" Bonacci .
He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Rose B. Amato, Kingsport; three sons, Joseph F. Amato, D.C., and wife Kathy, Kingsport, TN; Ronald V. Amato, D.C., and wife Cyndee, Stoneham, MA; Stephen R. Amato and wife Debora, Chuckey, TN; two daughters, Carol Ann Thrall and husband Charles Mark, Myrtle Beach, SC, and Marilyn Wolford and husband Leon, Kingsport, TN; one brother, Frank "Slim" Amato, Richmond, Virginia; one sister, Adeline "Lily" Cashara, Lynchburg, Virginia; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, Tennessee, with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Charles Burton officiating.
