Joy Whittington died of natural causes on February 28, 2013. Born August 8, 1930 in the San Fernando Valley, California, Joy met Gorley in the Mojave Desert and they were married on January 29, 1952. She was a member of Colonial Heights Christian Church, where she was a pianist for many years. Joy was known for her generosity, sense of humor and love for family. She could really make a piano sing. We know that Joy is safe in the arms of Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Susie Bartlow, and brothers, Ivan and Reedy Bartlow.
Joy is survived by her husband, Gorley Whittington; her four children, and their spouses, Dave and Janet Whittington, John and Judy Whittington, Betsy and David McPeak and Belinda and Phil Alley; nine grandchildren, Christopher Ray Gentle, Jason David Whittington, Jessica Rhiannon Whittington, Kayla Joy Kerns, Jonathan Dan McPeak, Isaiah Marcus McPeak, Josiah David McPeak, Samuel Caleb McPeak and Jordan Marcus Whittington; and five great-grandchildren, Chad and Cameron Gentle, Maria and Nathan Whittington and Evelyn McPeak.
Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday, March 3rd at 2:00 pm at Lovelace Baptist Church Cemetery. Joy's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Friends will be received at the Whittington home from 4-6:00 pm on Sunday following the service.
