Joyce A. Salyers

Joyce A. Salyers passed away Tuesday Sept. 24, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was born and raised in Scott County, VA. Joyce married Paul and went on to live in many different places during his career in the Air Force. She has been living in Kingsport since Paul's retirement in 1977. Joyce retired from the Sullivan County school system after many years as a food service worker.

She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Salyers; her daughter, Pattie Salyers; her parents, Amos and Lena Mae Barbour; siblings, Mack Barbour and Inez Carter; step-brothers, Pat, Jim, Tom, Arthur, Paul, John and Bill Barbour; and step-sisters, Hattie Honaker and Lucinda Guffey.

Joyce is survived by her children, Rick Salyers, Bluff City, TN; Ron Salyers (Jody), Biloxi, MS; Pam Kelly (Pat) and granddaughter Alicia Kelly, Ormond Beach. FL. She is also survived by her siblings, Emma Jean Salyers, Kingsport, TN; Minnie Lou Carey (Delmer), Columbia Station, OH; Shirley Barbour, Kingsport, TN; Wayne Barbour (Blanche), Kingsport, TN; Amos Barbour (Joan), Kingsport, TN; George Barbour (Peggy), Gate City, VA; Barbara Helton, Church Hill, TN; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home on Saturday Oct. 12, 2013 from 1-2:30 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:30. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Amedisys Hospice for their wonderful care of Joyce and also for the kindness shown to her family during this difficult time.
