June Stewart Ketron, 87, Boones Creek Community, passed away September 11, 2011 at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Ketron was the daughter of the late William E. Stewart and Nellie Lane Stewart. She was born on June 4, 1924 in Davey, West Virginia. She also lived in Gate City, VA, Kingsport TN, and for the last 62 years in Washington Co., TN.
She was a 1941 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. She worked for 3 years at Tennessee Eastman Company during World War II, then attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and East TN State College before her marriage in 1948 to Russell J. Ketron Jr. She retired in 1986 from Durr-Fillauer Medical, Inc. in Johnson City after 26 years.
She was a loyal member of Boones Creek United Methodist Church for 60 years. She held several offices in the church and always promoted the United Methodist Women and Missions work. She was an Eastern Star member since 1945, Worthy Grand Matron, 1976, 1987, 1992, with Nolichucky Grandview Chapter. She served as Grand Rep. of North Dakota in Tenn. 1978-1979 and Grand Committee member to the Calendar Committee, 1976. In addition, she served as Advisory Board Member of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Russell J. Ketron Jr., one brother, Stancell Stewart and his wife Mildred, nephews, Larry & Danny Stewart, brother-in-law Warren Forbes and Niece Pricilla Forbes Dockery and many others of her beloved extended family.
She is survived by her three sons: Kim Ketron & wife Kimberly; John Ketron & wife Ginger; and Charles V. Ketron; 5 grandchildren: Johnny Ketron, Louisa Ketron, Sumer Noel, John Russell "Russ" Ketron, and Kristen Ketron; sister: Agnes Forbes, Kingsport; Sisters-in-law: Kitty Mae Bowman, Kingsport and Lockie Bryan, Salt Lake City, Utah; and many special nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 13 from 5-7 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Ken Litton officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 14th at 10 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
