June Whitlock Stevens, 78, of Knoxville, formerly of Kingsport, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 26, 2008 in Nashville at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
June will always be remembered as a woman of true faith. She was involved her entire life in the church. First in Golda Memorial Methodist Church in Kingsport, St. Matthews Methodist Church in Kingsport, and then Celebration Church, where she had an active part in starting the church. June went through life making many friends and touching many lives. She exemplified the meaning of Christianity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Beulah Whitlock, Fall Branch; and husband, Herman Stevens, Kingsport.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Billy Hunter, Nashville; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Marquita Stevens, Knoxville; grandchildren, Laurie and Curtis Gross, Matt and Jon Stevens, Sydney, Jordan, and Tanna Ashcraft; great-grandson, Hayden Gross; sister and brother-in law, Kay and Joe Brown, Maryville; and sister-in-law, Girtha Coffey, Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David Graves and Rev. Craig Frye officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gunnings Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Billy Hunter, Curtis Gross, Matt Stevens, and Jon Stevens.
