Junior C. Gibson, 71, of Kingsport, passed away at 5:46 a.m. at his home following a lengthy illness that he fought with great dignity.
He was born in Jack Hollow of Lee County, Virginia and honorably served in the U. S. Army.
Junior and Karlene Gibson co-founded Lexington Heat Treat located in Lexington, Kentucky, which was a very successful metal processing company. After retiring from Lexington Heat Treat, he later founded Gibson Heat Treat in Kingsport which is currently owned and operated by his three sons.
Junior enjoyed restoring classic cars.
His parents, Silas and Birdia Coomer Gibson, preceded him in death.
Surviving are the mother of three of his children, former wife of 20 years, and loving caregiver during his final days, Karlene Gibson, Kingsport; five sons, Joseph Gibson and wife, Kathy, Baltimore, MD, Jay F. Gibson and wife, Debbie, Baltimore, MD, Keith Gibson and wife, Ellen, Kingsport, Gary Gibson and wife, Jackie, Kingsport, John Gibson, Kingsport; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Pat Thomas and husband, Bob, Middletown, OH; five brothers, Robert Gibson, Middletown, OH, Fred Gibson, Middletown, OH, Larry Gibson, Big Stone Gap, VA, Roy Gibson and wife, Teresa, Big Stone Gap, VA, Jerry Gibson and wife, Diane, Big Stone Gap, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:00 to 12:00 Noon Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 12:00 Noon at the funeral home with Rev. Bruce Brewer officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, VA.
Pallbearers will be Joey Gibson Jr., Jeffrey Gibson, Jay William Gibson, Jerry Gibson Jr., Josh Gibson, Silas Gibson, and Larry Gibson Jr.
