J.W. "Wild Man" Bennett, 67, Kingsport, passed away early Wednesday morning at Wellmont Bristol following injuries sustained in a fall September 12, 2011. J.W. was born in Kingsport where he had resided his entire life and was a retired employee of Holliston Mills. He was of the Baptist faith, enjoyed artwork, loved to paint mountain and stream scenes and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garney DeWitt Bennett and Juanita Nelms Bennett, sister, Shirley Nioka Blakley and nephew, Ricky Ramey.
J.W. is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Carpenter Bennett; two daughters, Kathy Anita Bennett Greear and fiancé, Leonard Hogg and Sherry Honaker and husband Teddy, all of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Tara Sexton and husband Travis, Dustin Bennett, Katie Louise Greear and Megan Honaker, all of Kingsport; two great-grandchildren, Cameron Sexton and Breanna Sexton; two nephews, Tony and Robby Blakley.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 4, 2011 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport with services to follow at 7:00 p.m.
A private graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
