Karissa Silver

Karissa Silver, born November 27, 1953 in Brooklyn, NY. Died September 24, 2022 in Washington D.C.

Always creative and rejoicing in music, art and nature, she excelled in academics and was on the faculty of American University and Montgomery College. She especially enjoyed building bridges between cultures, working with international students who came to study in the U.S., as well as helping organize and lead study abroad experiences for U.S. students in Europe.

She loved cats, butterflies, birds, karate, politics, and Tolkien.

She was a wonderful daughter, sister, and aunt.

She was preceded in death by her father, Morris Silver, and by her beloved aunt Rissie Weiss, who helped raise her after her father’s untimely death.

Left to treasure her memory are her mother, Myra Silver; her brother, Marty Silver, and her sister-in-law Chris Silver, all of Kingsport. Nieces and nephews, Jacob, Rachel, Mary, David, Hannah and Sarah. Great nieces and nephews, Maryann, Caroline, Eleanor, Janet, Maggie, Mary, Ruth, Thomas, Isaac, Abigail, and Patrick. Many dear friends in Washington D.C.

Service will be held on Wednesday, October 12 at 3:30 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, TN.
