Karl Gibson

Karl Gibson, 65, of Kingsport, died Sunday, April 9, 2017, afternoon at his home after an extended illness.

Born in Scott County, VA, he was a graduate of Rye Cove High School. Karl retired from Eastman in 2005 after 32 years of service. He was an avid musician having played guitar and sang in several bands in the area. His favorite song to perform was Big Boss Man. He loved spending time with family.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Eva Dell and Frank Gibson.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Laura Lea Lawhead Gibson of the home; one daughter, Sara Gibson Weese of Kingsport and her daughter, Sophie Weese; one stepdaughter, Lauren Hicks of Kingsport; three stepsons, Robert Carl Davenport and wife, Amanda Teague of Kingsport and their daughter, Ellis Davenport, Cody Davenport and wife, Hollie of Kingsport, and Jason Peek of Church Hill; one sister, Donna Gibson Gilliam of Weber City, VA; one brother, Robert "Monty" Gibson of Church Hill; special niece, Lora Taylor and son, Zachary Taylor; niece, Brandy Ford; nephew, Michael Gibson; two great-nephews; special friends/brothers, Jackie Hamilton and Lee Cooper.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Rich Slaght officiating and music to be provided by the Morrell's.

After funeral services, it was Karl's wishes to be cremated.
