Kate Pierce Witt died peacefully the morning of December 20, 2008.
The daughter of Mary Boyer Pierce and David Copperfield Pierce, Kate was born October 15, 1919 in rural Sullivan County.
Kate worked for over 30 years at Sobels in Kingsport. A life-long resident of Kingsport, her last years were spent with the caring staff of Preston Place. Kate will be remembered for her warmth, friendship, loving ways and generous nature.
Kate was a member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Vesta Alecock and Ruth Moore and brother David C. Pierce. Kate was also predeceased by her first husband Verlin Todd who died in 1952, and by Robert Witt, her second husband, who died in 2002.
She leaves a daughter, Donna Berg of Santa Fe, NM. Kate is also survived by sisters, Winfred Townsend of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Iva Riggs and Irene Snapp of Kingsport; brothers, John Thomas Pierce and Charles Wayne Pierce of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; stepdaughter, Barbara Brown of Kingsport; and stepson, Sam Witt of Kingsport. .
Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Tuesday December 23rd at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
A private family interment will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Kingsport Public Library Endowment Fund, 400 Broad Street, Kingsport, TN 37660.
