Kathleen "Kat" Wilkerson Boyd, age 77, of Kingsport went home to be with the Lord Friday (December 6, 2013) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a period of declining health. Born in Kingsport on December 17, 1935, a daughter of the late Hugh and Clarice Meade Wilkerson, she has resided in this area her entire life. Mrs. Boyd was a 1954 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. She was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church where she taught the Mary Sunday school class. Mrs. Boyd was active in Precepts and Bible Study Fellowship and was a virtuous prayer warrior. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the ICU nurses at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Wellmont Hospice and to nurse practitioner, Jaima Brown. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Charles J. "Hoppy" Boyd in 2000 and by a brother, Carl Wilkerson.
Survivors include her children, Stewart Boyd and wife Dreama of Kingsport and Lisa Loflin and husband Bill of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Van Boyd and Rachel Boyd Konnick and husband Matt, Preston Loflin, Landon Loflin, Morgan Loflin, and Hunter Loflin; step grandchildren, Rachel Caldwell and Hunter Wright; one soon to be born great grand child; sisters, Barbara Deel and husband Jerry, Charlotte Lingerfelt, Wanda Green and husband Johnny and Delores Jones and husband Dave all of Kingsport; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Monday (December 9, 2013) at Hamlett-Dobson, Downtown and from 2-6 pm Sunday (December 8, 2013) at the residence of her sister, Delores Jones, 1575 Kenmore Drive, Kingsport.
Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm Monday (December 9, 2013) in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Travis Pierson officiating. Special music will be provided by Hello Stranger and by Dustin Huffman. Burial will follow graveside services at 1:00 pm Tuesday (December 10, 2013) in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Preston Loflin, Landon Loflin, Matt Konnick, Larry Wilkinson, Roger Combs and Brian Waldo. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Hulse, Earl Hulse and Frank Waldo. Those attending committal services are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 12 Noon Tuesday and then proceed to the cemetery.
