Kathleen Ann McConnell

Kathleen Ann McConnell, 49, of Johnson City, passed away on February 28, 2019. Kathleen graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School, University of the South with a degree in English, and her junior year spent at the University of Oxford (Hertford College) and the University of South Caroline with a Master’s Degree in English. She also studied ballet and violin for many years and was a master scuba diver. After teaching for two years at the College of Charleston, she attended the Medical University of South Caroline in Charleston, graduating in 2002. She completed a Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and residency as a neurointerventionalist at New York University in 2010. She worked at various hospitals throughout her career. Kathleen regularly worshipped at the Beth Israel Synagogue in Asheville, NC. She was an active member of the State of Franklin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and Katherine Marbury Scott Chapter Colonial Dames of the 17th Century.

She is survived by her mother and step-father, Carol Redmond and Bob Scales of Bristol; her father and step-mother, Wes and Frances McConnell of Kingsport; brother, Wes McConnell, III and sister-in-law, Rafaella Chuahy of Munich, Germany; and two nephews, Nicholas and Alexander McConnell.

The interment service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019, at Oak Hill Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with Rabbi Wolff Alterman, of Asheville,  officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
