Billie Kathleen King Outlaw, 91, died March 4, 2012, at Indian Path Hospital after a full life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and career woman. She also was considered by many to be the best dancer in Kingsport, and she married a man who was Hollywood handsome.
Born Aug. 14, 1920, in Sweetwater, Tenn., Kathleen was the daughter of Arthur Bradford King and Martha Gertrude Cofer.
Kathleen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kingsport. She moved to Kingsport in her formative years and was a 1938 graduate of Dobyns Bennett High School. Nicknamed "Kat" by her friends, Kathleen worked for Tennessee Eastman in both Kingsport and Atlanta, Ga. Kathleen became a Realtor in Charlotte, N.C., where she and her family lived for more than a decade. She returned to Kingsport in 1973 and moved with her family into the house built by her father. She had grown up in that home and lived there the rest of her life. Kathleen worked as a Realtor for Bennett and Edwards and Kingsport Development Co. until her retirement in the 1990s.
In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Corban Outlaw; her brother David King; her sister Edna Ruth King Sandusky, and her brother, A.B. King.
Survivors include brother Paul King and his wife, Shirley, of Bristol, Tenn.; daughter Annis King Outlaw Halvorson and husband Todd of Titusville, Fl., daughter Martha Kyle Outlaw and husband Matt Ellenthal of Wilton, Conn.; grandson Aaron Kyle White of Philadelphia, Pa.; granddaughter Allison Corban Doucette and husband Tony of Tampa, Fl.; granddaughter Erica Kate Halvorson of Titusville, Fl. and Washington, D.C.; granddaughter Isabelle Outlaw Ellenthal, and granddaughter Natalie Outlaw Ellenthal, both of Wilton, Conn.; many nieces, nephews and friends; and loyal caregivers and companions Kay Bellamy, Nancy Oaks, and Frances Burrows, all of Kingsport
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A graveside service and burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Matt Ellenthal, Todd Halvorson, Tony Doucette, Jason Mahn, David Swayze, Aaron White and Duffy Wigle.
