Katie Lorene Bewley McPherson

Katie Lorene Bewley McPherson, age 89, of Kingsport, entered eternal rest on Monday morning, January 22, 2018 at The Wexford House. Born in Grainger County, TN on June 24, 1928, a daughter of the late George and Mary Read Bewley, she had resided in this area her entire life. Katie graduated from Emory & Henry College and was formerly an elementary school teacher. Katie was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, sister, and friend who loved being a homemaker and caregiver for her husband. Katie loved going on vacations and traveling.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to caregivers, Marilyn Reece and Robert "Bob" Barnes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Ralph Terry McPherson on April 4, 2017, and her sister, Shirley V. Reynolds.

Katie is survived by her nephew, George K. Vaughan and wife, Linda of Chattanooga; nieces, Regan Beckner of Church Hill, and Gretchen Ann Bible of Morristown; great-nieces, Amanda and Dana; great-nephews, Lee, Clint and John.

A Memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Green and Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating. Robert "Bob" Barnes, eulogy. The family will receive friends following the service in the parlor of First Broad Street United Methodist Church.


Combined graveside services for Katie and Ralph McPherson will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Historic Bethesda Cemetery, Morristown, TN. Military honors for Ralph will be accorded by The American Legion, Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post # 265. Committal services for Katie will be conducted by The Rev. Jack P. Weikel. Those attending graveside services are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 12:45 p.m.
