Kenneth J. Ellis, 84, Blountville, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Baileyton, TN in 1935. Kenneth was retired from Tennessee Eastman after 38 years. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having deployed to Louisiana during the Bay of Pigs in 1961 and to North Carolina during Desert Storm in 1991. He was a member of the 844th Eng BN (CH). Kenneth retired from the U.S. Army Reserve with over 20 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Bernice Ellis just 2 weeks ago; parents, John Clyde and Nannie Ellis; and brother, John Ellis,
Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Cindy Rowland and husband, Gary; son, Mark Ellis and wife, Diane; 5 grandchildren, Brandi Baker and husband, Wes, Stephanie Ellis, Taylor Rowland, A.J. Rowland and fiancée, Whitney Laurent, and Tiffany Ellis; 3 great-grandchildren, Cameron, Carson and Jackson; sister, Joan Starnes; and several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Dr. Sherry Cline and the nursing staff of Bristol Regional Medical Center for taking such good care of him during his dialysis and his final days.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Eddie McAmis officiating.
The graveside service will be held on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 10:00 am at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.
Pallbearers will be Taylor Rowland, A.J. Rowland, Geoffrey Gregg and Wes Baker.
