Kenny Michael Short, 71, of Gate City, VA was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on August 18, 2024. Kenny was born in Kingsport where he attended Dobyns-Bennett High School. Following his time at Dobyns-Bennett, he worked as a security guard at the airport and then alongside his father, Homer, he drove for the Kingsport Limousine Service where he hauled celebrities such as Johnny Cash and Charlie Pride. Kenny developed a love for wrestling at a young age when he attended wrestling matches with his dad at the Civic Auditorium. He was not only a wrestling superfan, but he was also the very first wrestling historian in East Tennessee. Kenny leaves behind a great friend in professional wrestler, Beau James. He is most commonly known for his work as a delivery man for White’s Floral for the better part of 20 years. He was known as “the flower man.” He was a man with a wealth of knowledge and never met a stranger. Kenny loved his family unconditionally and was truly a kind friend to everyone.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Homer and Devodia Short; older brother, Jerry Long; brothers-in-law, Robert Matheny and Duane Allison; and Hound Dog, Pookie and Angel.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Judy Short; daughter, Cassie Renee Fales (Graham); siblings, Mary Allison and George Short; nieces, Senora Smith (Tommy), Briana Short; nephew, Christopher Short; great-nieces, Candace, Madison, Peyton, Emersyn; great-nephew, Waylon; sisters-in-law, Peggy Matheny, Kathleen Melons and Sally Austin; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
