Kermit Addington Jr, 82, of Kingsport, passed away (Thursday November 24th, 2016) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Kermit began several charitable outreach organizations in our community: Friends and Neighbors, Harvest Of Hope Community Garden, Oasis and Open Doors. He enjoyed playing golf and watching UT Football but his main focus was in the organizations he was invested in.
Born in Kingsport, he was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett and The University of Tennessee. He was a member of the Pride Of The Southland Marching Band. Kermit worked for Mason-Dixon Freightlines, he then completed his professional life as a business trainer for United Parcel Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Elva Addington; daughter, Debbie Addington; sisters in law, Linda Pyle and Carolyn Golden.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann Addington; two sons, Robert Addington and wife Tina and Billy Addington and wife Donna; six grandchildren , Nicole, Heather and Dylan, Garrett , Tess and Casey; brother, Tommy Addington and wife Glenda; sister in law, Cathy Evans and several nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance will be held at 2pm Monday at First Broad St. United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Green officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the reception hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the organizations he held dear.
