King E. Cox, 86, died at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday July 29, 2007 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Surgoinsville, TN, he had lived in Kingsport almost all of his life. A graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and Tusculum College, in World War II King was stationed in Korea as a Chaplain?s Assistant.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder, worked on various committees, and sang bass in the Adult Choir. King was an officer of Community Concerts, member of the Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency, and served as an Alderman in Kingsport from 1987-1991. He worked as an office administrator at Bennett & Edwards until his retirement.
Preceded in death by his wife Eleanor Jane Cusick Cox and parents Oscar Orville and Tennie King Cox, he is survived by children Carolyn Jane Cox Hamlin and Kevin M. Cox, son-in-law Alan Hamlin, Jr., and granddaughter Ana Marie Cox, all of Nashville, TN.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Monday at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, 117 E. Charlemont. Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 31st, at First Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle and the Rev. L. Craig Foster. The family will greet friends afterward at the church.
