Kyle S. Huffman

The best man I ever knew, Kyle S. Huffman, 84, of Kingsport, passed over to the next phase of life on Sunday, April 26, 2015, in the same manner he lived his life, with dignity and grace. I was privileged and honored to be his wife for 59, soon to be 60, years of the 84 years of his life. He loved life, his family, friends and his church, Pleasant View Baptist Church. He was always willing to lend a hand to help those in need. We worked, laughed, loved and danced our way through this life.

Kyle was born in Scott County, Virginia on October 25, 1930 to Noah R. and Elsie Ramey Huffman. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball for the Sullivan County League and Lonesome Pine Minor League where he was known for being one of the best pitchers. He was a master carpenter and painter. Kyle retired from Mead Corporation after 41 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army from August 7, 1951 - August 4, 1953 where he was stationed in Alaska with the Signal Corps. Kyle was an avid golfer and fisherman and especially looked forward to, and enjoyed, his semi-annual fishing trip with his son and a few close friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence and Howard, and many dear friends.

Kyle is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Click Huffman; son, Bill Huffman and wife, Lisa; two granddaughters, Chasity Huffman and Haley Huffman; two great-granddaughters who he thought the world of, Jaila and Elin, and a soon to be third great-grandchild, "Jellybean", that he was especially excited to meet; sister, Edith Huffman Smith and husband, Terrell; three brothers, Robert Huffman and wife, Elva, Ezra Huffman and wife, Doris, and Donald "Big Dog" Huffman; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many special friends whom he loved like family.

A special thanks to Amedisys, and special caregiver, Charlie Hilton, for their excellent and compassionate care of Mr. Huffman.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. Eulogies will be by David Byrd and John T. Little IV, with the closing prayer by Roger Smith.

The graveside service will be on Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Byrd, Tony Click, Lance Huffman, Noah Huffman, Terry Huffman, Randy Huffman, Joe Cassell and Stewart Boyd. Honorary pallbearers will be Boyd "Cookie" Cook, David Byrd, Oscar Alvis, Jake Roberts, Don Kiser, Reed Minor, John T. Little IV, and Dale Laughlin.
