L. A. Henry, 62, of Kingsport departed this life Friday, July 3, 2015 at Indian Path Medical Center.
Born in Kingsport on May 1, 1953, a son of the late Arvel and Freddie McClellan Henry, he has resided in this area most of his life. L. A. graduated from Lynn View High School in 1971. Mr. Henry was employed as a Telecommunication Coordinator for Mountain States Health Alliance for over 20 years.
He will be remembered as a loving and devoted dad, papaw, brother and friend who was an avid racing fan particularly nitro methane drag racing. L. A. loved life and loved to make people laugh. His life was his friends and family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Indian Path friends, family and co-workers.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jerry Churchwell and by a lifelong friend Howard "Dude" Wyatt.
Survivors include two sons, Brian Henry and wife Joy of Kingsport and Austin Henry of Crossville, TN; one daughter, Jenny Herron and husband Travis of Kingsport; three granddaughters, Aryonna Henry, Kyla Henry and Cloey Herron; one grandson, Cooper Herron; two sisters, Merreta Churchwell of Kingsport and Roma Smith and husband Glenn of Weber City, VA; several nieces and nephews and a host of special friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday (July 8, 2015) at Hamlett-Dobson, Downtown. Memorial services will follow at 7:00 pm Wednesday in the chapel with Chaplain Ron Owens officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers will be David McClain, Steve Fogle, Barry Tipton, Glenn Smith, Perry Sloan, Shannon Dingus, and Richard Kelchem.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at a later date.
