Lana Agnes Hawk Carter, age 74, of Mooresville, NC went to Heaven on January 16, 2018. It brings the family great comfort to know that she is now cancer free. She was born on October 2, 1943 in Kingsport, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her late father, Charles Hawk Sr. and survived by her mother, Louise Hawk (Papa Lou) who is 100 years old. Lana became a born again Christian at the First Baptist Church in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Lana graduated from Cary High School, in Cary, NC. Lana was a proud graduate of Mars Hill College, attended the University of the Americas in Mexico City and graduated from the University of North Carolina Women's College at Greensboro where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in language. She was a NC Teacher certified in Spanish. Lana was a retired college language professor and elementary Spanish teacher in the Rowan and Iredell Counties in the NC area. Lana served as an officer of the Mooresville Christian Woman's Club and was an active member at Trinity Baptist Church in Mooresville, NC.
Lana faithfully served her Lord, family and friends with a complete joy that made her Savior say "Well done good and faithful servant". Lana was an accomplished decorator, loved to read and she loved to shop. She loved to travel with her family, and she enjoyed taking cruises to the Caribbean. Lana loved college football and was a Tennessee Volunteers fan. She loved and adored her husband of 20 years, James A. Carter (Penn State fan). She tolerated her husband's love and passion for Penn State and they traveled to games at Neyland Stadium in Tennessee and Beaver Stadium in Pennsylvania often.
In addition to her husband, Jimmy, Lana leaves behind a very beloved family. Her two sons, Jason and Cyndi McDaniel, Justin McDaniel and Teresa; and 11 grandchildren, Gabrielle, Jordan, Joshua and wife Madi, Alexandria, Alyssa, Ashlynn, Jacob, Jaden, Joseph, Maddisen, and Mollee McDaniel; her stepson, James Richard Carter; and one step grandson James Alvin Carter II. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Jean Gibson, and brother, Charles Hawk Jr. She was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Hawk.
Visitation will be at Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Kingsport, TN on Friday, January 19th, 2018 from 12-1:30 pm. Funeral services will follow with Dr. Greg Burton officiating. The burial will follow the funeral at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport, TN. Pallbearers will be Jason, Justin, Joshua and Jordan McDaniel, Jimmy Carter II and Charles Hawk Jr.
