Larry B. Bishop, Sr., 71, of Kingsport, TN, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2010 after a lengthy illness.
Larry was born in Kingsport and was the son of the late Roxie R. Bowen and John C. Bishop.
He was a member of West Colonial Hills Baptist Church where he was a deacon for several years and also taught the Adult Men's Sunday School Class. He loved reading and studying his Bible and sharing The Word of God to others.
Larry worked at the Kingsport Power Company for ten years and retired from Holston Defense in 1998. He also served time in the U.S. Air Force prior to his working career. Upon retirement, Larry enjoyed his hobby of working on clocks. He loved it when his precious granddaughter, Grace, would join him in his shop and be his assistant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Bishop.
Surviving are his beloved wife of fifty years, Alice C. Bishop, of the home; son, Larry, Jr. and wife Kim, and special granddaughter, Grace Ann; brother, Joe Bishop and wife B. J.; mother-in-law, Edith Cox, all of Kingsport, TN; stepmother, Polly Bishop, Oak Ridge, TN; two half brothers, Johnny Bishop, Oak Ridge, TN; Benny Bishop, Kingsport, TN; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express gratitude to the staff of Dr. David Franzus for their love and compassionate care during Larry's long-term illness.
Calling hours are 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at West Colonial Hills Baptist Church.
Services will follow at 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the church with ministers, Russell Ferguson and Wes Rankin officiating.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Larry B. Bishop, Jr., Mike Painter, Mark Painter, Kevin Speck, Randall Cox, and Butch Lee.
Honorary pallbearers are Russell Ferguson, Tom Cox, Wayne Cox and Alan Cox.
