Larry W. Conkin, 56, of Kingsport, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after having a heart attack Saturday morning February 12, 2011.
Larry graduated from Sullivan West high school and studied electrical engineering at the University of TN. He spent most of his life in Kingsport but had resided in other states and countries an as employee of Eastman Chemical Company. He was employed there at the time of his death. Larry was a member of First Baptist Church, Kingsport and was an Eagle Scout from Troop 57 in Sullivan Gardens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter B. Conkin and Gladys Cox Conkin and a brother, Lewis Conkin.
He is survived by his wife, Mitos Conkin; two sons, Jamieson Paul Conkin and wife, Stacie of Asheville, NC and Isaac Vincent Conkin of Kingsport; two brothers, Dennis Lynn Conkin and wife, Janet, Walter Kenneth Conkin and wife, Brenda, both of Kingsport; niece, Elizabeth C. Britt; nephews, Brian Conkin, Matthew Conkin, and Mark A. Conkin; along with several cousins.
The family will receive friends from 3-6 pm Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Sullivan Baptist Church, Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 6pm at the church with Pastor Jeff Strong officiating.
It is an honor for Larry to be an organ and tissue donor, which has enabled others to lead an enhanced, healthier life.
