Larry Dougherty, 58, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife on March 31, 2010, following a four-year battle with cancer.
Larry was born and raised in Kingsport. He retired after thirty years of service from Quebecor Hawkins County/Kingsport Press. He loved woodworking and electrical work. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and competitive archery.
He was a member of Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church, and also attended Kingsley United Methodist Church. He was a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Monk and Maxie Emma Dougherty.
He is survived by his wife, Hester Stidham Dougherty, Kingsport; daughter, April Dougherty, also of Kingsport; stepsons, Brian Stidham and wife, Karla, Kingsport, and Daniel Lane and wife, Angela, Big Stone Gap, VA; three grandchildren, Erik and Katrina Stidham and Alexis Lane; sister, Tammy Burke and husband, Ron, of Mt. Carmel; brother, Randy Dougherty and wife, Peggy, of Kingsport; special friend, James Childress; and very special "babies", Jazz, Snickers, and Sally.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. at Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church. Services will be conducted at 7:00 with Rev. Ray Amos, Jr., Pastor Joe Barber, and Rev. Grover Starnes officiating. Music will be provided by John Powers, Dr. Patty Van Hook, and All for Him.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, Big Stone Gap, VA. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Bates, Glen Bass, James Childress, Jason Dougherty, Daniel Lane, Jerry Pruett, and Brian Stidham.
