Larry R. (Tubb) Hamilton, 67, Church Hill, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 3, 2013.
He was born in Sullivan County on May 11, 1946, and resided in Church Hill all of his adult life. He proudly served in the US Navy as a cook. He worked at Hawkins Co. Press for more than 30 years, retiring in 2001. He was a lifetime member of the AFL-CIO, local #299, having held many offices. He was a member of the Goldwing Chapter C. He loved farming, gardening, and riding his Honda Goldwing. He was proud to say he rode his Goldwing to the four corners of the United States.
Larry attended Fudges Chapel United Methodist Church where he taught the men's Sunday School Class. He was a loving husband, dad, papaw, brother, uncle, and friend to all.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Hamilton; parents, Lora Beatrice and Raymond Hamilton; brother, Kenneth Ray Hamilton; sister, Peggy Melton; precious sister, Jane McKinney; granddaughter, Emily Denise Hamilton.
Larry is survived by his daughter and caregiver, Angie Hamilton, of the home; daughter, Lisa Linkous and husband, Mark of Rogersville; grandsons, Jared Qualls, Bruce Estep and wife, Alicia, and Richard Estep and wife, Brittany; granddaughters and apples of his eye, Trisha Christian and husband, James, Cassidy Justice, "Tipp" Feagins; great-grandsons, Bruce Estep, Jr., and Ryder Estep; brother, Jerry Hamilton of Minneapolis, MN; sisters-in-law, Carol Hamilton and "CJ" Jensen of Minneapolis, MN, Barbara Meade of Kingsport; special nephew, Jerry Hamilton and special great niece, Katelyn Hamilton of Minneapolis, MN; several step-children, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many, many friends. He is also survived by his three dogs, including his special Lulu.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Chapel, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Greg Fletcher and Rev. Tim Hodges officiating.
The graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at 1:00 p.m., at Fordtown Baptist Church Cemetery. Military Honors will be be accorded by The American Legion, Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenneth King, Bill Hurd, Buck Harrison, James Feagins, Ted Robinette, William Pierson, Bill Sexton, Lyons Hurd, and the Men's Sunday School Class at Fudges Chapel.
