Larry Joe "Snake" Hensley, 56, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Indian Path Medical Center.
Larry was born November 18, 1951, to the late Lawrence and Virginia Castle Hensley. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all who loved him. He was an avid animal lovera"especially snakes. Larry was a graduate of Gate City High School and retired from Tennessee Eastman Company Utilities Division on December 1, 2003. He did volunteer work at Bays Mountain Park in the Herperatium Building. He was an avid sports fan of football, tennis, boxing, and NASCAR.
Larry announced he was saved by God on May 4, 2006. He couldn't wait until he called his friend, Pastor Wayne Baker who was like a brother to share the news. He wanted to share his love and thanks to "Susie", "Jane", and Ms. Dorothy Jo Argoe for sharing their love of God and Jesus Christ over the years.
Surviving are his best friend and love of his life, his wifea"Charlotte Amyx Hensley; his special brother with whom he loved and shared many conversations and interests in life, Bobby C. Hensley of Hiltons, Virginia; two sons and their wives, Rev. Christopher Melissa Johnson Castle of Fall Branch, TN, Rev. Jason "Bo" Brandy Harrison Castle of Gray, TN; five grandchildren, Alexa Rose, Heath Lane, and Karalyne Grace Castle of Gray, TN, Jackson Davis and Cooper Hamilton Castle of Fall Branch; two special dearly loved cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Clevie Jane Crass of Gate City, VA/Johnson City, TN, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Susie Gilliam of Wadlow Gap, VA; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Ruby Junell Amyx who were his friends and his mother-in-law who he said made the best chicken 'n dumplings he had ever eaten; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. William Gale Sandra Castle and Mrs. Jeff Jackie Housewright, all of Kingsport; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a loving pet, "Zoey Bird".
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff in the ICU, 6th Floor, and 5th Floor and Dr. Stanley Hodges at Indian Path Medical Center for their compassionate care during Larry's illness.
It was Larry's wish to be cremated.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant View Baptist Church or any time at the home, 1153 Bloomingdale Pike, Kingsport.
Memorial services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church with Pastor Wayne Baker, Rev. Christopher Castle, and Rev. Jason "Bo" Castle officiating.
