Larry Edward "Steve" Jones

Larry Edward "Steve" Jones, 70, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Wellmont Bristol Hospice House.

Larry was a member of Bays Mountain Baptist Church and was an active worker in the church prior to his illness.

Larry served seven years in the U. S. Navy and retired from Eastman after 30 years of service.

He was an avid fisherman and a big fan of the Tennessee Vols. He was a member of the Kingsport Masonic Lodge.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Ola Nell Grills Jones and father, Oliver Edward Jones; one brother Ronnie Jay Jones; and his beloved and best friend, his dog, Sambo.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sandra Davenport Jones; two daughters, Tracy Bartley and husband, Matt of Gray, TN; Amy Smith and husband, Donnie of Jonesborough, TN; one sister, Reta Smith and husband, Jeff of Myrtle Beach, SC; one brother, Rick Jones and wife, Jacque of Kingsport, TN; sister-in-law, Nina Jones of Kingsport, TN; aunts, Lona Carberry and Ina Kate Grills; and several nieces and nephews.

The family extends a special thanks to the Wellmont Bristol Hospice House for their care of Larry.

Visitation will be Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The family will also receive friends at the home of his daughter, Tracy Bartley.

The Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Dr. Lester Morelock officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Eastern Star Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Posts No. 3/265.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Smith, Matt Bartley, Ricky Jones, Jr., Bill Dorton, Sid Osborne, and Michael McGuire.

Honorary pallbearers will be E. G. Jones, Floyd Thompson, Wayne Fowler, and Wayne Kite.
