Larry "L.D." Donald, 80, of the Bloomingdale Community, died Thursday morning, April 20, 2017, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended battle with heart disease. Born in Greenville, SC, Larry had lived here since 1962. He retired in 1999 from Fluor Daniels where he was a warehouse supervisor. Larry had spent over 40 years as an electrician. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Bloomingdale and a 50+ year member of the 688 Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed camping, and playing with and aggravating his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Alice Donald; son, Dale Donald; brothers, Bill and Jerry Donald; in-laws, Chester and Jean Dykes; and brother-in-law, Ron Fry.
Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara J. "Bobbie" Donald of the home; daughters, Traci Gibson and husband, Bill of Seattle Washington, and Amy McFarlane and husband, Brian of Dandridge, TN; son, Larry Mark "Duck" and wife, Claudia of Gray; grandchildren, Matthew, Summer, Tyler, Allison, Jackson, Brad, Ethan, Cooper and Jacob; sisters-in-law, Ann Donald, Becky Donald, Connie Fry and Diana Clark and husband, Gary; and several nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful for good neighbors, Margaret Tipton, Ronnie Marshal and Mark Hayter for all of their help.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Dr. William D. Gibson, Pastor David Powers and Pastor Tim Price officiating and the Eulogy by Gary Clark.
The graveside service will be held on Sunday at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Marshal, Mark Hayter, Darrel Johnson, Henry Helton, Danny Baily and Chris Helton. Honorary pallbearers will be Murlice Carpenter, Dobbin Fleming, Tee Hamby, Bill Long and Don Geisler.
