Larry W. Slemp

Larry W. Slemp, 65, Kingsport, went from the loving arms of his wife into the arms of the Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 26, 2015. Larry attended Valdosta High School in Valdosta, GA. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War with the 175th Field Artillery Battalion as Sgt. Ammo Chief and Gunner from 1969-1971. He received the National Defense Service Medal M14 Expert and M16 Marksman. Larry retired from the Department of Veteran Affairs Mountain Home in 2012, having worked in Engineering Maintenance. He loved the outdoors, fishing and camping with his wife, friends and family.

We would like to express our thanks and appreciation to the nurses and staff of Hospice Home Care and Hospice House for the love and support they gave to Larry.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Elmer Slemp, and his brother, Harold R. Slemp.

He is survived by his wife of 37+ years, Sandra Slemp; step-son, Jon Slemp; brothers, Donald M. Slemp and wife, Joy, and James E. Slemp and friend, Sherry Wells; sister, Carol Grubb and husband, Charles; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Davis, and Murl Davis and wife, Lisa; sister-in-law, Karen Bailey and husband, Lonnie; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11-12:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm with Rev. Vic Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park with Military Rites by Boone Dam VFW Post 4933.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908, or to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Rd., Ste. 102, Johnson City, TN 37604.
