Laura Ashworth Conkin, 90, of Sulphur Springs community, formerly of Blairs Gap community, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, November 4, 2007, at the home of her niece and caregiver, Mrs. Charlotte Lonnie Horne, after a lengthy illness.

Aunt Laura was a member of Ramsey Freewill Baptist Church in Norton, Virginia. She was a homemaker and loved working in her flower gardens.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl Conkin; her parents, John and Pearl Ashworth; brothers, Lonza, Bascom, Andrew, Rev. Howard, and Leonard Ashworth; and sisters, Lakie Ramey, Earchel Osborne, and Maudie Lawson.

Surviving are one sister-in-law, Ms. June Ashworth, Lenoir City, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Fall Branch. Services will will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Keith Williams and Rev. Orville Dolen officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Lonnie Horne, Greg Horne, Howard Ramey, Tom Ashworth, Paul Ashworth, and David White. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Ashworth and Jim Ashworth.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Roger Archer; his nurse, Kathy Dean; and his staff for many years of their medical services; as well as the Gentiva nurses, therapists, and her bath giver. They were all so kind, caring, and nice to her during her declining health. Aunt Laura had grown to love each of these people just like her own family, and also to the Medical Center Hospice for their help, support, and compassion.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Medical center Hospice, 101 Med Tech Pkwy, Suite 100, Johnson City, TN 37604; or to Ramsey Freewill Baptist Church, 1165 Liberty Avenue, SE, North VA 24273; or to the charity of one?s choice.
