Laurie Feit

Laurie Feit, of Kingsport, passed from this life on January 10th. Laurie was born August 4, 1946 in Pleasantville, New York to Carol and Harry Dushin.

She grew up in Valhalla, New York, graduating from SUNY at Albany with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English Literature and Education. Moving to Kingsport with her husband, Dr. Richard Feit in 1982, she had a twenty year career with the Kingsport City Schools. Laurie was a lover of books and shared her passion for reading with the students of the John Sevier Middle School for the last 18 years as an assistant librarian. She belonged to the Kingsport Book Club and valued the friendship of its members.
Laurie loved working the earth, sowing seeds, drinking sweet tea in her gardens. She was a Certified Master Gardener and editor of the Southern Appalachian Plant Society Newsletter. She was a Board Member of the Kingsport Guild of Ballet and Kingsport Youth Soccer Association. Laurie was an advocate for the Holston Valley Hospital Foundation and cherished her association with Holston Valley Gala Committees.

Laurie is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard Feit; sons, Gregory Phillip and his partner, Jennifer Johnson, Justin Matthew and daughter-in-law Shannon; daughter, Emma Leah and son-in-law Clint Baier, three grandchildren , Jackson Isaac, Owen Patrick, and Connor Joseph; sister, Bonnie Dushin Baker, and brother-in-law Bruce Baker; brothers, Jim and Bob Dushin, their spouses Cindy and Joy Dushin; aunts, Dorothy and Leona Dushin; nephews and nieces; mother-in-law Bertha Okoskin; brother-in-law Fred Feit, his wife, Bonnie and son, Phillip.

She was preceded in death by father-in-law, Phillip Feit, and step-father-in-law, Herb Okoskin; uncle, Frank Dushin, and by her parents, Carol and Harry Dushin.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 12 noon at First Baptist Church, Kingsport, with Rev. Mitchell M. Whisnant officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
