She was born in Kingsport and lived all her life here. While she devoted her life raising her children, she also helped her husband operate Droke's Shoe Store in Kingsport.

She was a lifelong member of Pactolus United Methodist Church. She loved the Braves, the Red Hat Society, and her friends and activities at Kiwanis Towers where she lived for 22 years. Lawanda worked at the Roller-Russ Residence helping those who were disabled, and volunteered many years with Meals On Wheels.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Droke; infant son David Droke; parents, James and Julia Horne; two brothers, Francis and Ernest Horne; two sisters, Zella Casteel and Louise Fleenor; and half-sister, Lochiel Easley.

Lawanda is survived by her daughter, Helen Droke Rowland and husband Richard; three sons, Steve Droke and wife Linda, Bob Droke and wife Mary, and Jeff Droke and wife Rebecca; eight grandchildren: Bruce Rowland, Steve Rowland, Jennifer Thompson, Stephanie Dickson, Carmen Brooks, Courtney Dunnavant, Jon Droke and Jenni Droke; ten great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law Verlin and Vivian Droke; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1-2:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm with Michael Driver, Chaplain officiating.

Burial will follow at New Lebanon Cemetery at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church.

Special thanks should go to the staff of The Village at Allandale and also to the staff of Smoky Mountain Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care of our mother.

In lieu of flowers, it would please the family if donations were made to the New Lebanon Cemetery or to Pactolus United Methodist Church.
